Diamond Divided 2022, Stephanie Frame, Thread on paper, 25" x 25"48"
"Chromatic Lattice is a new series of geometric abstract artwork using silk thread to explore line, shape and colour. For this series, variations of the cube are the foundation of the minimal architectural designs, with influences from works such as Josef Albers’ woodblock prints, Sol LeWitt’s structures and Frank Stella’s Notched-V paintings. The series also takes the utilitarian material of thread, often associated with craftwork, and uses it to construct intricate compositions, separating it from its traditional functional applications while retaining the aura of the handmade. Dimension and shape are created by repeating lines of silk thread sewn onto the paper, producing delicate planes of colour. A cross-hatching effect is formed where the threads intersect and lay on top of one another, introducing new fields of colour and complexity to the compositions. The tension of thread develops a subtle shimmering relief on the surface and brings a visceral quality to the works. Through the intersection of colour, line, material and form, the works in the series Chromatic Lattice resonate with an intricate and delicate balance of beauty and structure."
