Felde, Galen
Lives in Vancouver, BC
Artist Statement
Echoing familiar landforms, Galen Felde's paintings are a complex, often disguised integration of natural and urban elements addressing issues of empathy, impermanence and our difficult relationship with origins, adaptation and alteration of the landscape. Her canvases combine acrylic texturing an under-painting with feathered brushwork and numerous transparent washes on wood panel.
Galen was born in Vancouver, BC and studied the visual arts and contemporary dance in Vancouver BC, London England and in Montreal Quebec. The division of her time between the raw but vulnerable nature of the BC Interior, and the geometry, chaos and mutability of urban settings, were instrumental in informing her artistic vocabulary. She has been a full-time practicing artist for over two decades, with yearly exhibits, an extensive body of work and representation locally and in Eastern Canada. Her paintings are collected internationally.
