Biggs, Leah
Lives in Vancouver, BC
Artist Statement
Leah Biggs’ artistic practice is informed by her background in classical animation and film. She creates starkly dramatic charcoal drawings to create a mystery and tension reminiscent of classic film noir images from the mid-20th century.
Her subject matter includes an array of carefully chosen thrift store items - old telephones, lamps, suitcases, and shoes. Vancouver neighbourhood crows are also an ongoing subject.
Biggs's mixed media abstract paintings derive from her observations and experiences of living in Vancouver's West End, close to nature and the city. Her exploration of paint, texture and mark-making capture fleeting moments of time on the canvas.
