Amy Stewart

Lives in Vancouver, BC

Amy Stewart’s work is composed of shapes and line-markings in paintings that have earned widespread praise in Canada and internationally. Inspired by her grandmother’s watercolour practice and her own childhood in the British Columbian communities of 108 Mile House and Vernon, Stewart’s large canvases produce unique explorations of colour, ranging from exuberant bursts of brightness to contemplative reflections on darkness. Her work features lines sweeping against shapes, angles and soft curves positioned in relation to one another. Reworking these elements in each series, Stewart’s aesthetic brings together abstract representations of wilderness with personal reflections on such themes as social connection, loss, urban transformation, aging, and joy.

Stewart’s paintings have been displayed in dozens of solo and group exhibitions, and are widely commissioned by both private collectors and major investors, including for retail outlets, design studios, property development projects, and film and television sets.

Stewart paints out of her studio on Granville Island in Vancouver, Canada.
