Hipol, Karl

Karl Hipol is a Philippine-born Canadian multidisciplinary artist living and creating on the unceded territories of the Coast Salish Peoples, including the Squamish and Tsleil-Waututh, also known as North Vancouver.

He holds a BFA with a major in Visual Art and a minor in Curatorial Practices from Emily Carr University of Art + Design. He was awarded the OPUS Art Supplies Graduation Award BFA and Honourable Mention for the ECU Graduation Award for Anti-Racism + Social Justice. His other awards include the Visual Arts Award from the British Columbia Art Council (2023-24) and the inaugural Visual Arts Prize from Art Rapture (2023).  Artist residencies include the AGO X RBC Emerging Artist-in-Residence (2024), Griffin Art Projects Artist in Residence (2024), Herschel Supply Co., Gastown, for their Infinity Room (2022), and Arts writing fellowship at Centre A: Vancouver  International Centre for Asian Art (2022).
