Artist Statement

Mark Mizgala has been described as an ‘urbane’ neo-folk artist. At first glance, his naive and whimsical works innocently depict mundane and ordinary objects. On closer examination Mizgala’s images reveal a sardonic layer. Disguised within his colourful photographs and gestural drawings are satirical commentaries on pop iconography and our consumer culture.
