Featured Artist: Marion Landry

This body of work was initially created during a two-month residency in Joshua Tree, California, where the vastness of the sky and shifting light conditions were observed and translated into minimal abstract compositions. Developed through daily observation and engagement with the site, the work reflects research into light, atmosphere, temperature and the subtle changes that shape perception over time.

Marion Landry’s art practice is grounded in a phenomenological approach, emphasizing embodied experience through painting. Influenced by Modernist abstraction, her geometric painting compositions use chromatic vibrations, hard-edged forms, and graphic lines to capture the essence of light and evoke sensory responses. By incorporating the concept of the expanded field of painting, she creates site-responsive installations that utilize light, temperature, and traditional painting techniques to create immersive and sensory experiences. 

Nature profoundly informs Landry's work; her encounters with atmospheric phenomena shape her perception of time and space. Observing light interacting with water droplets or shifting across landscapes distills transient moments into meditative reflections.

Executed with precision and respect for tradition, Landry's paintings offer quiet resistance to today's overstimulated world. Through subtle gestures, low contrast, and minimal compositions, Landry creates contemplative spaces that invite viewers to pause, reconnect, and find refuge in stillness.
